Where is the Scottish being held this year? Is it at the Caird Hall again or is it going back to Falkirk/ Motherwell?

I remember going to a Sabba (When it was still SABBA) AGM a few years ago and a motion from the floor was put to the vote and passed that the Scottish being a prestigious competition should be held in a prestigious hall.
Has this been conveniently swept under the carpet to be forgotten about???

Be Fair, you can't get much more prestigeous tham Motherwell Civic Theatre, it's only 2 minutes walk from Fir Park !

Has this been conveniently swept under the carpet to be forgotten about??? They probably spent their money on holding the Scottish open at Glasgow Got to keep the big bands happy though. But even that fell flat on its feet.It was costing too much. They had to ask the lower section bands to join in to make it anywhere near worthwhile. So i doubt there will be a Scottish championship held anywhere decent for a while. It would cost too much to hold a contest over the weekend. Although if they ask every band to pay something like £170 upfront, then they might be able to afford the Concert Hall.

Let's not turn this thread into a "slag the Scottish Open" thread or I'll lock it down fast.Laura: the Scottish Championships will be back at the Caird Hall in 2007 so you can nip up the road from your mum and dad's next year. I'm sure you can find a friendly Fife band to give you a lift through to Motherwell this year if you're coming up for the weekend

Allan, I would refer you to the news story on the SBBA site regarding the SBBA AGM, especially the paragraph quoted below. " Moving on to the Scottish Championships the President stated that the 100th staging of the Championships at the Caird Hall in Dundee had been an unqualified success with only minor points raised by member bands concerning bus parking and dressing room accommodation. The President said that the Life Members lounge had been received so well that it would be continued at future Championships. The President went on to say that the rotation of the Scottish Championships between two venues was not set in stone and that future venues were always under consideration, mentioning in particular that we had received good reports about the new concert hall in Perth." The full news story can be read at www.sbba.org.uk/newstory.php?news_id=34. Tom, I take it from your remarks that you don't class the Caird Hall as "anywhere decent".

I dont mind where we play, as long as its not a fleapit and is reasonably convenient for all the bands, and has a well priced pub fairly close by ;D
In an ideal world we would have every gig at Usher Hall, or Royal Concert Hall, but to fair im not that bothered about it.
Roll on the Civic Centre, top venue, hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Maybe they should have a vote at the Scottish for every member and choose one venue and have it there every year. Thats what the rest of the country do.....

I can't wait until the scottish, I always love playing at this contest its a great chance to meet up with everyone and have a grand old time.
I know that the condition of the hall matters to a lot of people but to me, as long as we all get to take part, whats the problem?
Compaired to some of the venues across the UK we don't do so badly in Scotland. Well thats what I think anways, rant over lol
