I was fortunate enough to attend the British Bandsman Centenary concert many years ago and heard Willie Lang, Maurice Murphy, Jim Sheperd, and Philip Mccann perform "Legends" together. Quite inspiring.
All the players on the voting list are top drawer.
My favourite however is Maurice Murphy.

This is an interesting debate and I would just like to throw something else into the mix!!
The problem is that many of us have only heard these players via recordings be it vinyl or CD. It could be argued that when someone records something a lot of time is spent making sure the final product sounds the best it can be. But as we all know playing "live" can be completely different.
Another point is that although some of these players have played together on concerts at one point or another, you could argue that unless you heard them at the peak of their powers you cant really compare them together.
Just a couple of thoughts for people to ponder!!! ;D

It would be very interesting to have a demographic breakdown of the results so far, as to the age of the voters, and how and when they have heard the individuals. I must be one of the few who have heard all of them live at their peak of performance. I am a little reluctant to contribute to this thread, as in private messages I've been accused of bullying the younger generation, and that my humour was dull and dry. I now live in total fear as I've been cursed by one of the clans covens, and feel them sticking pins in my effigy. Little do they realize I'm a masochist, and enjoy the pain! Dafydd ap Iago P.S. I'm even tempted to post these private messages in the gossip section for all to read!

Ah, but the beauty of these things is freedom of speech! Im quite enjoying the debate and as long as it doesn't get too personal then I think its fine.
Sometimes these forums are over run by us "youngsters"! (I'm nearly 30 BTW!) Its good to have a more "mature" opinion as it were!
Hope that hasn't offended anyone!!

Dafydd,
I wouldn't think for one moment your comments have been bullying, just honest and truthful, in most cases!
As for your humour, your postings have been some of the best posted on this forum for a long time!
Great to see some people are finally returning to this forum and contributing some useful information.
Keep up the good work!
Richard should your posting no say "I'm nearly 40"....

I'm even tempted to post these private messages in the gossip section for all to read! <-- Management Rant On -->Note to all: I'm disappointed to hear that some individuals have felt the need to send PMs making such accusations. The forum encourages freedom of speech and allows everyone to put forward their opinions and counter opinions. If anyone has issues with what's being posted then they should be contacting me or, better still, posting a witty riposte for all to read. If I feel things are getting out of hand then I'll be quick to contact the parties concerned and delete any posts as I see fit. For the record, from what I've read to date, none of David's posts have come across as bullying; rather they've appeared to me to represent well informed comment. As for his sense of humour, that's rather more subjective but some of the comments made have certainly left me smiling. So please, get on and post and bring your grievances to me if you don't feel that a public response is in order. <-- Management Rant Off -->

Getting back on topic!
I've voted for MM as I think he's the best all rounder, and who can argue with the career he's had. (or having!) If it was purely on cornet playing however, I might be tempted to vote for Roger.
David - how are you?

"Toure de France" next year.

That way you get some of the best wine available to ease your saddle-sores!

That's an excellent idea; but does one take it internally or use it as a liniment externally.

I believe the current practice in the world of sport is to use an I.V. drip at the end of the day!
