Who do you take your instrument to when it needs repaired or refurbished? What was your experience of the repairer? Can you recommend anyone? Has anyone ever used Mev Taylor in Edinburgh?

The best person I've ever taken my baritone to get fixed is Paul Andrews. Unforunately he is based in Warrington, which might be just a wee bit too far. Don't really know of anyone in Scotland- I only grew careless when I moved to England!! Sorry!

There is a guy in Falkirk who used to work for Normans called Frank Campbell who has his own workshop. He has done a cracking job on my cornet several times(repairs/refurb etc) and I recommend him to do a good job .His number is 01324 552088 .
Good Luck.

Thanks for that Stuart. I might try him but I'll have to clear it with the band first seeing as it's their instrument.

Does Jim Miller not do repairs? Just had a thought. Or maybe he was just excellent at stuck mouthpieces!

Try: North Winds Front Row, Aberargie, Perth, Perthshire PH2 9NB Tel: 01738 850700 Used them to overhaul my trumpet and they made a fabulous job - very reasonably priced too.

Thanks for all the suggestions there. I've left the instruments with Frank Campbell - Stuart's recommendation - so we'll see how it goes.

Good Luck. I just got my Baritone back from this guy and he's done a cracking job on the valves. He did the job really quickly for me too as I need the instrument for this weekend. Got some good advice from him as well about some tuning issues that I've been having. It would appear that I need about half an inch chopped off my first valve tuning slide So if you need a repair/service done I'd recommend this guy.

Was his prices quite reasonable then?
I could do with getting my valve guides done.

Was his prices quite reasonable then? I could do with getting my valve guides done. Cost £40 quid. A tenner a valve sounds a lot but it's worth it for piece of mind that the valves aren't going to stick on stage.

Funny you should mention about chopping bits of your slides Craig. Remember Craig Anderson telling us about new Bessons needing this done quite often.
