Well, there's been a bit of a power shift in borders banding toward Jedburgh in recent years so St. Ronans need to reclaim bragging rights with a good performance here. If you play anywhere near the standard at Falkirk then it should be a good contest. Unfortunately I won't make it down as we're installing new software that weekend.

Well done to all the winners. Does anyone have the points from the results.I heard that 2nd 3rd, and 4th all had the same points? I hope next year it will be in another venue, as there were no catering facilaties, the warm up room you had to make a run for it outside trying to avoid the cold wind and rain, and there didn't seem to be alot of jo public at the contest either. I still think however it is a very well run contest ,and long may that continue. Just my thoughts.

Thanks Tom- feeling pretty sheepish about being Chairman and winning more or less the lot - you've no idea how much it cost (only kidding!)
Yes, the aggregated points led to four bands on equal 2nd, but, as was agreed before the contest, they were separated by Nigel's scores - he actually had McTaggart's first, thus they got 2nd.
"Max" actually played as well as they've ever played under me; we had 7 of our Junior band on stage yesterday, including the winning soloist; a great example of what could be done if a band has a solid youth policy. We've worked hard on this for the past few years - maybe it's coming to fruit now! Jed didn't actually play as well as we could to be honest; we battled with the acoustics like everyone else, but the band are really on form right now.
The Borders contest usually takes place in one of the lovely town halls we have down here, and these are usually in the town centres, close to all the shops, pubs, take-aways etc. So we generally don't lay on catering, hoping that visitors contribute something to the local economy. However, Selkirk's Victoria Hall, a smashing place to play in, was unavailable, so the High School was the next alternative. It's not far to the town centre, but on such a cold, dreich day, it wasn't easy!
Hope everyone enjoyed the day, and we'll see you all next year hopefully!

Congratulations Alan on what must have been a great day for you and your bands. Make sure you look after that best bass trophy ?? I'll assume that your choice of Scottish composer was a certain Mr Fernie??
What was some of the music played. It's always interesting to see what was in the programs

Thanks for clearing up the points for me. I tried to ask my band mates at night ( i was working ).And they were under the influence of a sherry or 2 . So i was struggling to understand the points and placings. Its good to see the youth coming through, and it will give the kids so much confidence for the future.Well done. Tullis played: Gathering Of The Clan (A.Duncan) Superstar (flugel solo) (A. Fernie) Abba Goes Brass (A. Fernie) The water Is Wide (A. Duncan) The Gale (A. Duncan)
