I just noticed that if the 4BR Prediction had swapped the 3rd and 4th places they'd have been spot on for the top 6! And they had the Co-op as their dark horse. How very unlike them to be so close to reality... ;D

Ooh me head hurts! Great day out though, was good to see so many faces!! Aye you were looked as if you were enjoying yourself there doll!! Great to see you again! What a brilliant day out, well worth the 600 odd mile round trip! Was thoroughly entertained by all the bands, I heard 7 in all I think, tho wasnt down in time to here Cory or Sellers which I was disappointed at, but I wasnt getting up any earlier than 4.30am as it was!! Was good to hear all these top bands live for the 1st time!

Brass in Concert over for another year. So how was the new venue? The hall is a fantastic venue without a doubt and it was nice to have the Travelodge within ten minutes walking distance. The facilities were very good, if expensive, and you didn't have to get there early for the privilege of queuing up outside the door in all weathers, as was the case at Spennymoor. The acoustics were pretty good too and everything, the good and the not so good, was clearly audible. Something was lacking for me though. There wasn't the same atmosphere and it seemed like a very long day. Interesting to note that people who were attending the contest for the first time thought it was brilliant (you'd expect that), as did those who were hearing top class bands live for the first time, (you'd expect that also). As for the standard of the playing, I honestly didn't think it was as good as previous years. There really were some pretty average performances among some moments of magic, notably David Childs (in the moments of magic of course ;D). What about the entertainment? Again I wasn't as entertained as I have been in previous years. I think people were wondering what the bands could do that was new and in my opinion the answer to that was not very much. Many of the bands appeared to have abandoned the idea of doing anything 'entertaining' altogether, I guess in the hope that the musical performance would be enough to carry the day. That strategy might have worked for some. All in all then a good weekend, but I missed the chlorine filled atmosphere of the leisure centre,Spennymoor.

Nice write up Craig. What did the rest of you think? Do you agree or disagree with Craig's take on the day? Any new stuff being played that folks should be asking the treasurer to invest in?

I was one of the first timers Craig and I really enjoyed the whole thing. You make a fair point about the entertainment (visual) aspect with really only Brighouse pushing the boat out there with their Mambo number. On the other hand, Sellers bumble bee was embarrassing !!!!! David Childs was awesome but overall I was disappointed with Buy As You View, they seemed strangely subdued, maybe it was a combination of travel plus a 9.30 performance ! No doubt about the first two bands, they were a class above on the day, in fact, I don't think many would have complained if it had been the other way around. Why couldn't we have had a draw !!!!!! Re the venue, I've never been to Spennymoor but The Sage (Symphony Hall jnr ?) is magnificent. BUT, £6.90 for a glass of Red Wine - give me a break, still, lots of places within walking distance for a humble refreshment.

£6.90 - OMG ;D
A pint of carlsberg in the first tier bar was £2.90 a £1 more than i usually pay!
All the same from a competitors point of view it was a great place to have a contest, rehersal facilities were the best ive seen at an actual contest venue, we had a huge sounproofed hall for an hour! The hall was excellent to and i appreciated the big secreen on the back wall.
