PRESS RELEASE
7th BORDERS FESTIVAL OF BRASS
22 SEPTEMBER ¡V 1 OCTOBER 2006
Since it was first held in 2000, the Borders Festival of Brass has grown to become a popular and well-respected Borders-wide event, full of good music, entertainment and fun. The 7th Festival is set to take place from 22 September to 2 October and arrangements are well underway thanks to the efforts of the Scottish Borders Brass Band Association. The Festival will see events organised by each of the member bands and will include several exciting concerts, a long-established solo and quartet competition and a brass and percussion workshop for school children.
"Over the summer months, the towns and villages of the Borders have seen their local brass bands participate and enhance the various common ridings and festivals that are a vital part of local culture. However, the forthcoming Borders Festival of Brass gives everyone an opportunity to see the wide range of activities that their bands take part in over the whole year," said Alan Fernie, Association Chairman. "Our bands in the Borders are in particularly good health at the moment, and the Festival features a lot of different aspects of banding, from formal concerts, through to workshops and contests, with particular emphasis on young players. We are also fortunate this year to be welcoming distinguished guest soloists, bands, conductors and indeed, composers to the Borders, something that can only inspire and encourage the members of our bands to reach greater heights," Mr Fernie explained.
