I love listening to Journey Into Freedom though I've never played it. But, when it comes down to it, I'm with Alec in choosing Plantagenates as my favourite

Music of the Spheres - Philip Sparke
Modern, but more importantly - MUSICAL!

Music of the Spheres - Philip Sparke Modern, but more importantly - MUSICAL! I have to agree with you James; although I hate the word testpiece. Music is music, and is food for the soul and mind of mankind. My wife and I had the privilege of sitting with Philip over breakfast at Lang's Hotel when he explained the concept of the piece just before we listened to the world premiere in the Royal Concert Hall Glasgow with YBS and David King. In fact I did an interview with Trevor Caffull which I believe is on the DVD of the event. I do remember hesitating for a second as I nearly uttered an expletive to rejoice in its first performance, or was it the fact that my false teeth were about to drop out. Dafydd ap Iago

I love listening to Year of the Dragon, still manages to send shivers down my spine ever time I hear it played (by a good band).

It has to be a very good band, with a superb trombone player as I think the second movement is exquisite. I usually tell the trombone player to think he's either J J Johnson or Jack Teagarden in a small smoky New York Night club, smooooooooooooooochy baby, lol! Dafydd ap Iago

Must put my oar in here "Benvenuto Cellini" and "Harmony Music" are in my mind the best test-pieces ever composed. Nice to see you david keeping your end up.

I don't know about your final sentence; but I'm back on my exercise bike and pedalling like hell. With regards to another thread, I'm sure you'd be prepared to play with Kings of Brass; what do you think? Dafydd

Listen to Festival Music and then tell me you didn't get shivers running down your spine. It's all time favourite, although Resurgam must be a close second.
Suppose my choices reflect my age!!!
