On my band website I put Of Men and Mountains as my favourite but, the best ever written for pure genius, scoring and all round technical and musical virtuousity must be Revelation. It has everything. Masquerade comes a close second.

over the years I would say Plantagenets, Paganini and Spectrum but more recently I would say Dove Descending and Royal Parks..finally if that's not enought - Tam O'Shanter from this years regionals was an outstanding piece!

English Heritage by George Lloyd for me.
Dark musical humour at its absolute best, and gave Scotland its first ever National Title - ironic, eh?

Revelation without a doubt. Closely followed by Music of the Spheres and Blitz.

This is a difficult one to pin down to just one piece. There have been so many great pieces from guys like Vinter and Ball, etc. and I do love their music. How do you compare the likes of Variations on a Ninth with something Like Revelations? Of the modern composers though, I like Wilby's stuff. Dove Descending is a particular favourite; the slow movement is just beautifull. It's not a test piece, but the piece that moves me most when it's played well is Procession to the Minster.
